Plausible

Plausible moored in Brightlingsea next to the wharf

Length - 16.66 Meters | Beam - 4.7 Meters |  Draught  - 2.59 Meters | Max Bollard Pull - 5 Tonnes

Plausible is our newest vessel and is currently being put through the work boat code level 3.

Plausible is powered by a 8 cylinder 423 bhp Rolls-Royce engine driving a 360° Schottel unit and is equipped with a standalone diesel generator and diesel salvage pump, she is also equipped with two 5 tonne winches.

History

1968

Plausible, along with three others, was made in 1968 at Cooks Shipyard in Wivenhoe for the Port Of London Authority. The four vessels were all equipped with lowering wheelhouses that allowed them to pass under bridges without causing any disruption to the traffic above as can be seen in this YouTube video of her sister ship "Placer" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVeePF9IerY) . "Placer", "Planter", "Platonic" and "Plausible" were all equipped with a  423 B.H.P DV8NM Diesel Rolls Royce engine which was coupled with a belt  driven SR225 360° Schottel Unit which provided the vessels with  outstanding maneuverability. The equipment onboard also included a 10 KW  auxiliary diesel generator and a Lister diesel pumping unit with the  capability to be used as a salvage pump. Plausible still possesses all  of this equipment and it is all in good operating condition.

Plausible's History

"Plausible" was the last of the four vessels to be made and cost £39,857 in 1968, this amount is now equal to roughly £883,380. In 1974 she was renamed to "Freight Mover" and sold to the British Waterways Board, we believe that it was soon after this time that the wheel house was raised and a push bar was fitted to the bow. 1982 she was moved to Sharpness to help turn the big ships round in the dock. Later on she was used to push the newer diesel-powered bucket dredger the "Thomas Fletcher" in the Gloucester & Sharpness canal.

A New Beginning

"Plausible", still known as "Freight Mover" at the time, was later on sold and seen laid up at Padstow in 2013. In 2014 Parker Marine purchased the vessel with plans to restore her as a long term project and replace the raised wheel house with one salvaged from a vessel named the "Jessica", she was later on spotted in 2017 at Rochester having a major re work as can be seen in the image above.

Re Works completed

"Freight Mover" was seen in 2019 moored at Chatham having been fully painted and all works completed as can be seen in the image above.  Before being purchased by Colne Maintenance Dredging "Freight Mover" was spotted in Lowesoft in 2022 tied along side her worse for wear sister ship "Planter", see image bellow. January 2025 Colne Maintenance dredging was on the lookout to expand our fleet and find a bigger and more powerful vessel than we have had in the past, we looked at one other vessel before coming across her still moored at Lowesoft still along side her sister ship "Planter" as can again be seen pictured bellow.

The Future

After we purchased "Freight Mover" she was towed down to are home port of Brightlingsea by the previous owner where we took time to paint and return the vessel to its original name of "Plausible", our next goal is to get the vessel to pass her work boat level 3 qualification to allow us to complete more work.
